The sixth meeting of the Policy Forum took place on the 25th July 2014 in the Lighthouse, Glasgow, and focused on the issue of inequality in contemporary Scotland. The afternoon-long discussion was led by David Bell, Professor of Economics at Stirling University, and by Stewart Lansley, Guardian journalist, economist and award-winning TV producer. David presented research findings on Inequality in Scotland: Trends, drivers and implications for the independence debate. Stewart presented his research on various kinds of policy interventions, and how they would impact on the increase in inequality which has been generated in recent decades. The session then broke into a series of facilitated, round table discussions – involving some 60 participants from UWS, Oxfam and a host of community, civil society, HE and public sector organisations – which fed back to a plenary session from which Oxfam were able to derive key pointers and insights for their future campaigning and policy work.
